Job Summary
The Orientation Specialist works as a member of a team focused on the onboarding of new drivers to ensure their success at Hirschbach. The Orientation Specialist is responsible for the evaluation of new drivers for compliance with DOT regulations and confirms they share safety as our #1 Value. This position provides effective training focused on preparing new driving team members to be fully operational drivers immediately following orientation.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducts road and backing skills testing for new drivers during orientation to assess their proficiency and readiness for the role.
  • Collaborates with Hirschbach teams in recruiting, maintenance, operations, safety, and compliance to coordinate efforts and ensure that new drivers receive top-notch training, equipment, and support during onboarding.
  • Assists in the development of training content for drivers covering topics such as safety, claims, compliance, operational effectiveness, technology platforms (e.g., Hirschbach Hub, GeoTab), and truck and reefer unit operation.
  • Energetically presents and delivers training on Safety, Claims, OS&D, Compliance, Hirschbach Hub, Operational effectiveness, GeoTab, and Truck and Reefer unit operation.
  • Provides a warm and welcoming environment for new drivers from the moment they are picked up at the hotel until they are seated in their trucks, ensuring they feel supported and valued throughout the orientation process.
  • Conducts thorough inspections on trucks assigned to drivers, ensuring they are fully operational and in acceptable condition before being presented to the driver.
  • Supports the Orientation Manager with various duties, including reviewing paperwork, building driver codes, and any other tasks as needed to ensure the smooth operation of orientation processes.
  • Other duties as assigned including proactively assisting others in achieving the organization’s objectives.

Talent Requirements and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent, paired with relevant professional experience.
  • Previous industry experience in driver orientation, training, or a related field within the transportation industry, is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations and compliance requirements is preferred.
  • Class CDL A is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy and energy.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to upholding safety standards and promoting a culture of safety excellence.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate others.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Computer proficiency and ability to navigate between multiple programs.
  • Demonstrates an “All In To Win” attitude and displays self-motivation and a strong desire to learn within an unpredictable and demanding environment.
