About the Role
We are looking for a Shop Manager to lead daily operations in our shop. This role is key to ensuring a safe, efficient, and well-organized environment while providing leadership to a skilled team. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with strong people management skills, driving performance while upholding Hirschbach’s culture of safety and service.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and manage all shop operations, ensuring a safe, efficient, and compliant workforce.
- Oversee personnel functions: hiring, training, scheduling, performance reviews and coaching.
- Maintain accurate parts and tire inventory to support timely, cost-effective repairs.
- Review repair orders, vendor invoices, and maintenance reports for accuracy.
- Ensure daily reporting and communication on out-of-service equipment and operational needs.
- Perform and certify fleet inspections, ensuring compliance with federal safety regulations.
- Coordinate in-service of new trucks/trailers and manage dedicated account maintenance activities.
- Support drivers with service issues and provide clear communication to stakeholders.
- Uphold OSHA, environmental, and company compliance standards.
- Manage floor-level shop operations, quality control, and offsite equipment inventory.
- Leverage diagnostic tools and maintenance management software to identify and resolve technical issues.
- Foster teamwork, consistency, and problem-solving within shop staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience (1 year = 1 year).
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a truck shop or related field.
- Valid driver's license required; Class A CDL preferred.
- FHWA-qualified Equipment Annual Inspector (396.12) and Brake Inspector (396.25).
- Strong leadership and people management experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (maintenance sections.)
- Experience with diagnostic software (Freightliner, International, Paccar, Cummins).
- Proficiency with Maintenance Management Software; knowledge of P&L is a plus.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- A hands-on, motivated attitude with the ability to thrive in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
- $80,000 - $95,000 based on experience
