Physical Damage Specialist

Job Summary

The Physical Damage Specialist is responsible for recording and processing claims for losses incurred after damage to any company assets in the company's care, custody, or control. These losses could also include cargo, worker's compensation, accident, or injury claims which would otherwise place the organization at a financial risk with a customer or claimant. The Physical Damage Specialist will provide analysis of claims and handle communications regarding litigation, subrogation, physical damage, liability, and workers compensation. This position does require availability to be on call for some nights and weekends for serious accidents and other duties as necessary. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Take calls during normal business hours.
  • Adjust physical damage claims on Hirschbach equipment including unreported damage claims.
  • Adjust personal injury, worker's compensation, and occupational accident claims.
  • Collaborates and communicates with the Claims, Operations, and Safety/Compliance teams. 
  • Communicates with insurance carriers and agencies regarding accidents as necessary. 
  • Communicates with drivers on a daily basis.
  • Discusses accidents, damage, preventability, and processes with drivers. 
  • Maintains files for litigation, subrogation, physical damage, liability, and worker's compensation.
  • Works with claims in the AS400 Claims System and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets as necessary. 
  • Reporting of claims and accidents as necessary. 


  • Associate's Degree in an applicable field, or in lieu of, one year of experience in trucking, claims and/or safety and compliance.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Work, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with AS400 computer software is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret reports, schedules, spreadsheets, graphs, charts, etc.
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgement and make a decision in a crisis situation.
