Staff Accountant

Department:   Finance

Location:        Dubuque, IA

Reports to:   Controller

Status:          Full-Time / Exempt

Shift:               Monday – Friday / 1st Shift

 

Job Summary: The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting in the complete, accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, internal accounting controls, efficiency of accounting records, annual financial audit, balance sheet reconciliations, and hands-on treasury activities.

Essential Duties:

  • Audit compliance with internal controls and financial procedures
  • Prepare timely, accurate and useful financial and management reports for internal and external users and company’s Board of Directors
  • Participate in financial and tax audits
  • Prepare and file sales and fuel tax and business returns
  • Prepare month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial statements
  • Perform month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations and corporate/overhead cost allocation
  • Maintain and enhance financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control systems
  • Support all external audits
  • Prepare daily cash management and reporting to lenders
  • Maintain fixed assets

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or relevant field
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
  •   Up to three years of experience preferred but not required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of or pursuit of CPA preferred
  • Prior corporate accounting (book-closing) experience preferred but not required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills via telephone, email, and in person
  • Strong multi-tasking, time-management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to create, manage, and analyze spreadsheets
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Experience working with accounting software packages

 

The successful candidate should be able to define problems and establish facts to assist with creating solutions. The candidate should be able to be detail oriented, work under minimal supervision with strong decision making and organizational skills.
